Coping with Fertility Treatments

You may be considering starting, in the midst of, or considering stopping fertility treatments after:

  • Struggling to conceive naturally

  • If genetic testing reveals genetic conditions that could be passed down to your children

  • To preserve your fertility if you aren’t ready to start a family now and want to have the option to later

  • Deciding to use third-party reproduction to help to build your family, with or without a partner

The process can feel overwhelming, from navigating unpredictably scheduled appointments to waiting for rounds of results from those appointments and procedures. The uncertainty inherent in the process, from what the results will be to when they will be shared, can add to the weight that you are carrying. The physical side effects and financial demands can add another layer to the stress.

Sometimes the process can unsettle the belief that if we try hard enough and do everything right, things will work out the way we hope. A cycle of hope and disappointment may be leaving you emotionally depleted. The grief of a failed transfer can weigh heavily and feel isolating.

You may be carrying more than most people can see, and you don't have to carry it alone. Therapy can be a space to put words to what you are carrying and to process what you are feeling.

I work with people on ways of coping with the stress of fertility treatment and navigating decision making. Therapy offers a space to build your capacity to tolerate the uncertainty that accompanies this process.  Together, we can explore the full spectrum of feelings with compassion, untangle the expectations you may be holding yourself to, and begin to offer yourself a little more grace as you navigate a process you never asked for.

I've been through IVF myself, which helps me to speak the medical language of fertility treatments, so we can spend our time where it matters without needing to bring me up to speed on the medical side of things.

With support, you may start to feel lighter and more connected to your own resilience. I recognize that reaching out can feel vulnerable, and I'm here when you're ready.
